The Arc Community Greenspace

The Arc Community Greenspace provides an inclusive, art-filled public space that celebrates Mill Run, models solar energy and native plantings, and builds community capacity. The site serves as a venue for arts, culture and wellness events organized by the community for the community. Since 2019 more than 55 events have been presented in the site, which is also available as an informal community gatherings. In 2025 we received a Creative Sector Flex Fund award which allowed us to expand our programming and community outreach. We are grateful to PA partners in the Arts and Erie Arts and Culture for their support.

Since 2019 The Arc has organized more than 55 arts-engagement events during Second Saturday Markets, Meadville Neighborhood Center’s Second Saturday Night Live Concerts, Meadville Independent Business Alliance’s First Fridays, and The Arc’s Annual Community Movie Night. These events, featuring arts, culture, and wellness activities, supported development of a community vision for site design and community-informed public art that has beautified the site while addressing issues of slum and blight. ENGAGEMENT

The Arc Community Greenspace has transformed a vacant and blighted city lot in downtown Meadville into an inclusive, art-filled greenspace that celebrates Mill Run, models solar energy, and builds community capacity. Providing a venue for arts-engagement, culture and wellness events organized by the community for the community." The Greenspace is open to the community as an informal community gathering space. In 2023 The Greenspace was honored by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association (PA-APA) as an example of a Great Transformation of public space in Pennsylvania. The PA-APA noted that The Greenspace has inspired improvements to neighboring properties and strengthening relationships between stakeholders.

Art and Environment
Initiative. 

The lead artist on this project is Amara Geffen, director of the Art & Environment Initiative, which promotes regional revitalization & beautification through arts-based placemaking and the creation of community-centered public art. The wooly mammoth sculpture pictured left, was developed by Geffen through an Our Town Grant, which she directed in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. The sculpture is located at Fireman's Beach.
